Cedar Valley Sustainable Farm is a family farm in operation since 2003. It’s located north of Ottawa, IL on the banks of Indian Creek. We are a diversified, small scale, livestock grazing operation that integrates poultry, pigs, sheep and cattle. Our market is primarily Chicago and its suburbs. We sell our meat through CSA memberships and farmer’s markets.
Job responsibilities will primarily consist of daily care of animals, including feeding, watering and moving. Projects planned for this year that will provide great learning opportunities include building animal shelters and installing/maintaining high tensile fence. Depending on the individual, responsibilities may include CSA deliveries and/or Farmer’s Market staffing.
A successful candidate will be energetic, willing to learn, physically capable (lift 50 lbs) and able to work in all (safe) weather conditions. A driver’s license is strongly preferred.
Position will be from May – October, 30-40 hours/week, some weekends required. Compensation will include housing and food (meat & veggies from our garden) along with a stipend. Educational opportunities include on-farm training, participation in CRAFT field days, and greenfarmers networking and events. Candidate is encouraged to pursue additional projects of interest, with farmer’s approval. (Additional projects could include cost share/profit share produce, or additional animal projects.)
